The collection consists principally of records maintained by Tommy Archer, financial secretary, of the Local 926 (Atlanta, Ga.) of the International Union of Operating Engineers from 1927-1971. The Local's records include correspondence (1932-1971) which concerns membership, insurance, labor-management relations, disciplinary matters, and protection of the union's jurisdiction, particularly from the United Construction Workers; financial material (1927-1967); and minutes (1949-1970) which discuss wages, elections, trials, and construction jobs. The collection also contains files relating to Archer's duties as treasurer of the International's General Pension Fund (1957-1966) and as president of the South Atlantic Conference of Operating Engineers (1953-1959). The Conference records include minutes which discuss organizing efforts in the South Atlantic States and correspondence dealing with conference arrangements.
